• These are specialized coatings (paints) designed to meet the functional as well as aesthetic needs of autonomous vehicles (AVs).

• Beyond just appearance, these coatings address sensor compatibility (LiDAR, radar, cameras), signal transparency, self-cleaning, low reflectivity, durability, and more.

• As AVs rely heavily on external sensors, the role of coatings is more critical than in “normal” vehicles: poorly designed paint/coating can degrade the performance of LiDAR or radar.
